The new game.

Today’s quote

At some point everyone will say to self “Im sick of those homemade videos, fart announcements on twitter, or pokes on facebook. I wanna throw my computer, my iphone or smartphone away, and have some fun in the sun”

Och jisses vad jag saknar dig.

Snälla kom hem!

Food, girls and facing fears.

To day has been such a good day! Wow!

Facing my fears and doing interviews was so much fun I didn’t want to stop. Have been in contact with the Department of Game Design at the University of Gotland, an organisation/project called SuperMarit that is involved in strengthening girls and women who develop games and make girls more interested in gamedevelopment (did you know that in the whole gameindustry 15% of the people working are women? And that number INCLUDES administration, receptionists, secerataries etc!), The company P and more. Fun fun fun!

We also attended a lecture held by Katarina Graffman, an anthropologist who runs the company inculture. They offer studies and trend-analysis of different groups in our society. The lecture was really exciting, she talked a lot about young people and their usage of digital media. She took up some prejudice thoughts about the subject, like for example the idea of young people as experts on the internet on all areas; finding information etc. That isn’t necessarily true. Internet is only a tool, just because you can chat and keep up social contacts with it doesn’t make you an expert in learning through it. It’s like knifes; just because I can chop a cucumber doesn’t mean I can carve wood.

She also mentioned the things you can tell just by observing the environment a person live in, like for example by looking into their refridgerator. I wonder what she’d think about me.. In the refridgerator at Hyper Island my shelf contains two kinds of salad, soy milk, paprica, half a cucumber, an orange, ketchup, keso (cottage cheese) and a box with yesterdays bulgur. Well, I’m a sucker for ketchup and veggies, that’s for sure. What kind of person that makes me, I have no idea. Considering I have a pile of drugs on my desk (coffee, tea and snus), I’m definately not a health freak.

Katarina Graffman was here today and talked to us about etnography. Interesting, how much your fridge can say about you!

the wonderful net and blog design

Arriving to the office and realizing that the blog design I so creatively puzzled together at midnight yesterday isn’t that brilliant after all..

Just face it Sanna, you suck at coding!

Feel free to invite me to a html/css workshop at any time this week, fellow colleagues! I want to learn everything. On saturday my sweetheart Robin (AHILH) will come back home from Greece and hopefully he will pass on some of his skills from his work as webdeveloper to me.

Thought I might share some things I really like at the web for the moment.. First of all; Handgranat.org – an excellent way of using the wiki (what is a wiki? wikipedia has got the answer for you right here) as an interactive place where you can share thoughts, ideas and discuss all kinds of matters in a new and creative way. Change everything yourself and expect change from others. Everything is changing all the time, everyone gets to speak up and no one has greater influence than the other.

And for all of you who used twitter before; here’s the new deal: identi.ca! A micro-blog where you can get updates (even via sms!) on what people around you are watching/thinking/reading/getting fascinated by at the moment. Wondering what the ** a micro-blog is? Here’s the answer!

Oh how I love the internet.

ought to rest

I really should get to bed now, since sleep is a crusial thing for us to function as human beeings. (snus, red bull and coffee just isn’t enough, as likely it may sound) To day has been an intense day, as all days at Hyper Island are. The module (information society) started this monday, but I feel like I’ve been working at Telefonplan forever. I adapt easy to different environments, I guess.

Trying to focus on other things than the notion of stress about our group project right now. Even though the deadline is almost two weeks away I feel like I could (and SHOULD) have done a thousand more things by now. Arrgh.

During the Delhaize workshop today we tried out some guided imagery, we all closed our eyes and tried to visualize different scenarios given by the workshop leader. Among others, we got to meet our future self, in the role as a leader. Our Future Leader Self (phew) was supposed to give us a gift, and my FLS gave me a whatch. Ironic, huh? I guess it was supposed to symbolize structure and control, two things I highly value in my work, and which I really feel the lack of right now.

Planning on setting up some more personal structure tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Make a schedule, when I need to have finished what. I don’t wanna put any preasure on my other co-members in the group, so it’s just for me. To give me an illusion of control and structure, so that I can relax and work and be creative again. Stress is paralyzing, at least it is for me.

Allright, this is definately the last post for today, promise. See you all tomorrow, sleep tight (I will try to).

Love,

Sanna
