Brain Hurricane

Today we had our first workshop; the assignment was to create a new technical service/device/art installation/product from a creative seed aka a saying.

My group got “A picture is worth a thousand words” and from that we created a social photo-sharing system based in our physical world.
We imagined an environment where all floors are touch-screens, with the ability to identify and locate people. If every person in the environment has a RFID-tag in their mobile phone, they can choose an url (their flickr photostream for example) from which pictures are streamed around them, on the floor. With that technique, people could interact with each others images/photos and choose which photos to show.

Well, this might sound strange, but I guess that was the point. People came up with the most fantastic ideas; invisible suits, pinata-games, FRA-ountains, interactive dance-floors and such. Inspiring! I love the way we are allowed to let go of all respect for technologies and play with them in a creative and free form.

Fun fun fun, but now I’m exhausted, so no more Hyper for moi today.

Ciao!

Tech Newbie

Hello, world!
First class today on the new module; experience technology. Excited and willing to get started.
This will be so much more fun than all the technology lessons during high school. I have to admit that I have limited knowledge about the subject so far, the closest I’ve gotten is basically playing Nintendo Wii and such. But I’m looking forward to learn, so now – research!

Cheers!

madness

Status: Listening to Peaches, chewing gum, feeling frustrated.

Got the book “Bitterfittan” by Maria Sveland for my 21th birthday from my mum, read it in just a couple of days and ever since a feeling og frustration and annoyment has been lingering over me. I’m starting to see things I haven’t thought about for about two years or something (back then I was a lot more angry than I am today, but I was also more conscious, I think).

For example; how come it’s always the woman who dress up her husband (tie his bowtie etc) and the man who undress her?

I don’t get it! I don’t get it!

friend opportunity

The most beautiful gift this birthday;

A portrait of me by my talented friend Johanna, thank you so much!

Summary

Back on track again, in school, working on my portfolio project. Right now, the assignment is to make an inventory or sort of a background to my future work. An analysis of what I want with my portfolio, and how to achieve these goals. But now, I thought I deserved a break so here we go!

The past weekend has been wonderful. Friday was home-studies for me, but I felt so exhausted after the past week with the communication-training that I spent all day in our sofa under a pile of pillows and a duvet. Slept for hours and watched Fight Club a second time. Felt like I needed it, so I considered that day an investment for the future, sort of.

Saturday, my mum and younger brother visited and we had a nice, sunny, autumn-day in the city. Took a long walk at Hornstull, lunch at Copacabana, and coffee at Gunnarssons Konditori. Checked out the bazaar at Skrapan as well, really crowded but quite nice. Finished the day with dinner at Chutney and cinema.

Yesterday I was waken by my dad, his wife, Robin and my younger sister singning “happy pirthday” and serving fresh fruit and a wonderful green ginger-lemongrass-tea in bed. Sweet. In the afternoon, me and Robin went for adventures and in the evening we ate chocolate and watched Moulin Rouge.

Oh, how I love weekends.

feel no dread.

Look – it’s alive!

And..

Yeah, by the way:

my school would have been an island of hope, perfect for me,

if I was a guy.

hello woman! hello low-status!

Today at class we were learning about communication skills, something we’ve been doing all week. Our (male) lecturer is talking about status. “We’re all capable of adapting different levels of status depending on the situation!” he declares.

A person with high status speaks loudly, takes a lot of space, both physical and mental and can sometimes seem arrogant.

A person with low status, takes very little space, speaks with a quiet voice, avoids eye contact etc.

Our lecturer calls one of my classmates up on the stage, and asks her to sit down on a chair. She does that and crosses her legs. He says:

“Look, this is exactly what I’m talking about! This is low status!”

And to demonstrate, he walks out on the stage and sits down on the chair beside hers, with his legs and arms widely spread over both his own and my classmates chair. He looks at her (the rest of the class laughs) and he tell her;

“Now you do what I’m doing!”

Everyone laughs even louder. My classmate looks terrified. After a while, someone cries out:

“But she’s wearing a skirt!”

Our lecturer looks at my classmate.

“Yeah, you’re right.”

And then he moves on to the next topic.

Space travel is boring

Was listening to Modest Mouse on my way out to Telefonplan this morning, and stumbled over this beatiful, unofficial mix of songs with artwork and everything included. Like it!

Get it here!
